July 2, 2019
Effective July 28, 2019, Washington state law requires that motorcyclists carry liability insurance. Motorcycles were exempt from insurance requirements prior to this new law.
Motorcyclists are also required to carry proof of insurance cards, same as currently required for autos. Operators who don’t have proof will be ticketed and the violation will appear on their driving records. Keep in mind that violations can affect future insurance premiums for both auto and motorcycles.
Mopeds and motor scooters are exempt from the insurance requirement.
Please contact your Account Advisor if you have any questions or would like to add coverage for a motorcycle.
